Food Good Vibrations Blog

One of the quickest ways to my happiness spot is food. I told Andy that the only way his proposal could have been better is if we were at a cool hotel and when I walked in the door, instead of having a trail of roses and candles that led to the bed and heart shaped bathtub (he did not do that) if he could have a trail of crab legs, like 50 of them. Then we could cook them and chow down for the rest of the night.

And he still think I’m awesome after that comment :)

I would consider myself a foodie for sure. I LOVE to try new things and when it is good, I make romantic sounds (to the food of course) to let everyone know at the table how good my dish is! I wanted to share with you the top 5 restaurants that I LOVE in our beautiful city.

1.Mussel and Burger

This should come as no surprise! We gotta support our next door neighbors, not like they really need it because this is one of the hottest restaurants not only in the city but the country. This place is undeniably delicious, and its undeniably delicious every single time. The atmosphere is so fun at night especially, tons of people getting together with their family and friends and enjoying killer food. I love it here! If you haven’t went you need to go as soon as possible, and if our buddy Max is working the bar, tell him hi for me, he’s an amazing bartender and very friendly!

2. Silver Dollar

Well this atmosphere is ridiculous! Right there on Frankfort Avenue, this little gem has a small candle on every table, stringed lights everywhere and a stellar beer selection. It’s smaller and quaint on the inside with friendly service and very savory food. The veggie burger is the and so are their sauces they bring out! Prices are reasonable and for the atmosphere, it doesn’t get much better than this one!

2.Wild Eggs

Now I found this love on August 22 when Sam and Danielle and I celebrated the end of our workouts together! It was love at first breakfast bite. This place has it going on! In my opinion, this is the best breakfast biz in the city, like hands down. And just to let you know, I have tried a plethora of breakfasts spot in Louisville and there is a reason that every location is on a 45 minute wait every time I call on a Saturday morning! You gotta try the Breakfast Nachos, Danielles favorite dish is there rendition of the hot brown. And the orange juice tastes like you are biting into a real friggin orange and their everything muffin is……. like whoa. Need I say more?

4. Hilltop Tavern

This little joint! Hilltop is located right across the street from Silver Dollar and they couldn’t be more different. Hilltops atmosphere is way cool and has a very local feel. A little bit more “rugged” if you will, with old games you can play and a pingpong table, strictly of your enjoyment. It may not look like much when you walk in but the. food. is. out. of. this. world. Everything is made fresh there except their fries and chicken fingers or popcorn shrimp (not sure which one or if they even have popcorn shrimp but its something along those lines) Everything else is theirs though! Hilltop also has an incredible veggie burger, actually the first veggie burger I ever tried (and I’m not close to a vegetarian) and from that point on, that place became on of my faves!

5. Coals Pizza

Now. I did save this one for last. OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. My awesome guests Jimmy and Cindy gave me a gift card to Coals a few weeks back. Andy and I went there two fridays ago when we got off work, so it was around 4:30. First of all the place is cute as can be. Tiny little thing, but very nice. Our server was AMAZING, and I really wish I could remember his name but everyone was incredibly friendly (which scores major point with me and Andy). First of all, it was happy hour and we ate like a king and queen.

$10 bottle of wine

$10 whole pizza

50% two orders of wings

And lastly, the best brownie I have ever tasted in my 27 years on planet earth. It had chunks of sea salt and carmel glaze to come with it. I almost fell out of my both. I basically yelled at our server to come over to our table so I could tell him what this did to MY SOUL!!! I did also tell him they really needed to add some vanilla ice cream to it and you know what his response was? “We can’t mam, we don’t have a freezer here… everything is made fresh daily” My response, “Of course it is, well I’ll buy this place a blue cooler on wheels, throw some ice in it and grab a tub of Breyers vanilla ice cream from Kroger and lets just see how it goes.”

Lol, he has no clue what Andy deals with everyday. But seriously, this place was my favorite!! Defintiely go there and if you get there during happy hour, lucky you! I know you won’t be disappointed!

Happy Halloween!!!!!!! This. Is. My. Fav. Holiday. When October 1st comes every year, it’s like I become a maniac with my Leaves candle that Terri introduced me too and now, a new favorite scent for Halloween, Trick or Treat! You can find those at Bath and Body Works. (The amount of money that her and I both spend on our candles is slightly batty)

EVERY Halloween this is the Yurko tradition:

1.Make my Witches Brew aka White Chilli.

2.Watch the Halloweens with Jamie and Michael on repeat all day. And when I say all day, I mean it can’t come off the channel at all. Poor Andy.

3. Hand out candy to all the trick or treaters and play a spooky CD to enhance the mood for the kids!

4. Dread going to bed because I don’t want October/Halloween to be over!!!

I know this is creepy but I had to! Halloween wouldn’t be the same without this cheesy movie.

I wanted to share a little bit of the tradition with you! Maybe you could take the Witches Brew recipe and spice it up to your liking and make it a family tradition for your household. Here’s what you’ll need:

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts

4 cups chicken stock

1 clove garlic, minced

1 medium onion, diced (optional)

1 (15-ounce) can white beans, with liquids from beans

1 (4-ounce) can diced green chilis, with liquids from chillis

1 teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon chili powder

Salt and Pepper to taste, and maybe a smidge of sour cream and shredded cheese for toppings if it floats your boat!

How to make it:

  1. Cook Chicken on stove top in a pan. Add chicken stock and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Shred chicken with two forks and then add back to the liquid.
  2. Add garlic and onion to stockpot, white beans, green chilis, cumin, chili powder, salt and pepper. Stir until well-combined. Taste for flavor and adjust to your preference.
  3. Simmer over low heat for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and serve.

Easy Peasy! This is super quick and super delicious. The ground cumin and chili powder really give it a kick and the cheese on top with some cut up chives is great too!

If you make this recipe and do a little something different, share below so we can get some new ideas!

Have a very Happy Halloween my friends.

Food Healthy Living

One of my fun guests Leigh sent me an article this week that I felt was so worthy for a Good Vibrations blog post. It’s gonna be short and sweet!

The articles is about the healing power in lemons!! I have always known that lemons were good for you but I had no idea what they could do for your body.

You can grab some lemons from the grocery, wash them and throw them in your freezer. Once the lemon is frozen get a grater and shred the lemon, including the peel! Put the “seasoning” on top of your foods, like salads, ice cream, vegetables or meat.

Here is what I find so interesting, the actual lemon peel contains 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself. It says that the lemon peels are health rejuvenators and flush out harmful toxins in the body. It is 10,00 times stronger than chemotherapy. When I saw that, I was so surprised and couldn’t wait to share it with people, ya never know, it could save a life!

The lemon tree is known for its varieties in lemons and limes, you can eat the pulp, juice press, prepare drinks, sorbets and pastries. Its credited with many  helpful attributes but the most interesting is its affects on tumors and cysts. It is a proven remedies against all cancer types…..!!!!

Lemons fight bacterial infections and fungi, affective against parasites and worms, it can regulate blood pressure and helps with depression, stress and nervous disorders. Lol this kind of makes me giggle to think one little fruit like a lemon can do all this.

This source of this information comes from one of the largest drug manufacturers in the world. After 20 laboratory tests since 1970, the extracts revealed that it destroys malignant cells in 12 cancers including colon, breast, prostate, lung and pancreas…..completely fascinating.

Lastly the compounds of the Lemon tree show 10,000 times better than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used in the chemotherapeutic world, slowing the growth of cancer cells.

I found this so interesting and hope you pass this along to a friend. Just copy and paste the link in the URL bar and send to a friend!
